The Armed Forces of Ukraine have formed their first motorized assault company using motorcycles within the 425th Skala Assault Regiment.

This unit trains in tactics for moving in large groups of motorcycles, each carrying two fighters armed with AKS-74U rifles, allowing them to shoot while on the move.
Exercises include operations under smoke cover, possibly deployed by drones, aiming for rapid capture of enemy positions, reducing enemy reaction time. Additionally, the motorcycles have specific roles, such as transporting electronic equipment, evacuating wounded, and carrying ammunition.
This strategy is already known from the use of Russian troops, who have developed similar tactics in recent years, involving operations with dozens or even hundreds of motorcycles for fast, maneuverable assaults. The Russians train these groups to operate on fronts up to 600 meters, advancing up to 1.5 km, and to hold positions for several days until reinforcements arrive. The groups are functionally organized, with motorcyclists specialized in electronic warfare, medical evacuation, mine laying, and chemical support.
The goal of these motorized units is to exploit mobility to make rapid advances in open terrain, complicating the enemy’s response and ensuring efficiency in assault operations.
The tactic requires intense training and unlimited fuel and ammunition resources, and has proven to be an important innovation in current conflicts, both for Ukraine and Russia.
